Baubau, SE Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The number of Wasior refugees who arrived in a second batch in Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi, on Thursday, totaled 806, an official said.

Head of the Social Manpower and Transmigration Service of Baubau, Amiruddin, said here on Friday that initially state-owned shipping firm PT Pelni which transported them said their number was 484 but after his side made re-counting, there were 806 refugees.

"They consisted of 428 men and 378 women. We have assisted and took them to their destinations," he said.He said that upon their arrival on Thursday at Baubu`s Marhum port, they were directly evacuated by a joint team of military and police personnel as well as officials form the transportation, health and other services.

"We picked them at the pier when they arrived. When they disembarked we directly took them to the location of refugee camps. Of course with a tight escort by security officers," he said.

"Among the refugees, there are 10 injured victims and they have been rushed to the hospital to receive medical treatment," he added.

He said that the social service officials took their data as soon as they arrived in the refugee accommodation facilities.

"This is done to know the whole number of refugees because their number may be just bigger than the one issued by Pelni," he added.

Last week, heavy rains showered Wasior town in West Papua province and triggered flash floods which killed at least 145 people and caused 103 others to go missing.
